About macOS Big Sur
Era of the Mac Operating System (Mac OS X and MacOS 10) is now over, as Apple has released macOS Big Sur, which has a completely new look and is such a significant upgrade that Apple has bumped the version number to 11.
With macOS Big Sur, Apple released the most significant design update to macOS since the release of Mac OS X, overhauling anything from the curvature of window corners to the colors and dock icon designs. The new look is meant to feel both new and familiar at the same time.
Let's take a look at some of the latest features in macOS Big Sur....
With Big Sur, Apple sticks to its User Interface philosophy, but graphical elements have been refined to give the device a more modern appearance.
With more translucency and rounded edges, windows have a lighter appearance for a cleaner look. The Dock has been made more transparent, app icons have been given a new standardized squircle shape, and app menu bars have been updated to be less obtrusive and blend in with the material.
To provide clarity and continuity across applications, system sounds have been completely redone, and new icons have been added to toolbars, sidebars, and controls.
The customizable menu bar provides access to a customizable control centre that houses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, and Keyboard brightness, as well as Do Not Distrub, Dark Mode, Sould Level, and other options, and the customizable menu bar offers access to a customizable control centre that houses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, and Keyboard brightness, as well as Do Not Distrub, Dark Mode, Sould Level, and other options.
The Notification Centre has been revamped to provide more immersive alerts organized by apps and widgets that can be customized in different sizes, similar to the iOS style.
A new design for core applications improves multi-window operations by organizing them better and making it easier to communicate.
Safari in macOS Big Sur is now faster and more battery-friendly, with a new start page that can be personalized with user-selected wallpapers and sections like Reading List and iCloud Tabs.
Extensions are now easier to find in the Mac App Store, and Apple has introduced a feature that allows Chrome and Firefox extensions to be easily ported to Safary..... Surprise, surprise...
Tabs have been redesigned to make Safary navigation quicker by displaying more tabs onscreen, with favicons identifying tabs and a hover gesture displaying quick page previews.
Safary's privacy has been enhanced with the addition of a Privacy Report that shows you which trackers Safari is blocking when you visit websites. Safari also has a built-in translation feature that can translate an entire website into up to seven languages.
If a data breach involving passwords stored in iCloud Keychain occurs, users will now be informed. This is a welcome addition to the auto-generated strong passwords and other security features.
Messages is now built on the iOS Messages app, and it has many of the same features as iOS 14, such as pinned conversations, @mentions, inline responses, and so on. Message effects are now available on the Mac, as well as Memoji formation and stickers.
The Messages app's search features have also been overhauled to make it easier to locate links, images, and matching keywords, as well as a new photo picker available throughout the operating system to make it easier to find photos by keyword.
The Maps App has also been redesigned, with support for Look Around, Indoor Maps, and Guides, which are lists of popular attractions, restaurants, and other locations. Maps for macOS can also be used to plan trips for cycling and electric vehicles.
Apple Music has been revamped with a new Listen Now Section housing new releases, artist interviews, and custom playlists, and the Photo App has been upgraded with a new Retouch Tool driven by machine learning.
Apps in the Mac App Store also has a new Application Label feature that lets users better understand privacy policies and the details that a developer gathers before downloading an app. This functionality is connected to a food nutrition label for applications in the Map App Store, according to Apple.
macOS Big Sur provides a cryptographically signed device volume that protects against tampering, as well as faster updates that start in the background and finish faster to make it easier to keep your Mac up to date.
Another valuable function is the battery use history for the previous 10 days.
For the time being, that's what there is to it. I attempted to highlight significant changes in a concise manner. In the near future, I will try to provide more in-depth information on macOS Big Sur How Tos.
