MicroSoft Edge - For Android Users

Microsoft has a surprising new offering for Android users searching for a different web browser. Although it may come as a surprise to some that Microsoft has taken so long to release an Android version of Edge, the fact that it was released so quickly and without fanfare is perhaps even more remarkable.

But that is exactly what has occurred. A demo version of Microsoft Edge has appeared in Google Play out of nowhere, offering Android users a new way to browse the site. Edge Canary, which is based on the Chromium engine, is currently available for testing.

The launch of the Android version is fantastic news for anyone who has spent time and effort transitioning from Internet Explorer or legacy Edge to the Chromium-based version of Edge in Windows 10, as it allows them to stay in the ecosystem while switching to web.

The browser works largely as expected, and you can synchronize your browsing data between devices. This means you can start surfing the web on your computer and pick up right where you left off on your phone thanks to open tab syncing.

Bing-powered translation, tracking prevention, Microsoft Defender Smartscreen filtering, and an option between light and dark themes are also included in this first edition of Edge for Android. Browser extensions are currently not supported, and it is unclear if this will change in the future.

Since this is a preview build, this early version of Edge for Android may not be completely stable. Microsoft is seeking positive and negative reviews from everyone who installs it, and the company says:

"Do you want to be among the first to see what's new? Mobile access to Microsoft Edge preview channels is now open! For Android, this is the Microsoft Edge Canary channel. Canary will be updated on a regular basis to keep you informed of our progress. We depend on your feedback to improve, so please download now and let us know what you think."

If you're interested in giving Edge for Android a shot, it's available for free on Google Play and is compatible with Android 5 and up.
