Use These Security Features While Using Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge's security measures, although not all are activated by default, can protect your online privacy and enhance your surfing experience.

Turn on the Enhanced Security Mode.
Microsoft Edge's enhanced security mode applies stricter settings to frequently visited websites, enhancing browsing safety using operating system features like CFG, ACG, and Hardware Enforced Stack Protection.

Edge's enhanced security mode is an adaptive feature that adjusts settings based on your browsing patterns.

To activate advanced security mode, click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the screen and select Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Security.

Maintain "Balanced" for optimal protection and usability, while setting "Strict" provides maximum online threat protection, as it may impact some website functionality.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen should be used.
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen protects PCs from phishing and malware by scanning websites and downloading files, blocking high-risk operations, and preventing the downloading of potentially unwanted programs.

To activate this function, navigate to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Security and toggle on the "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen" and "Block Potentially Unwanted Apps" options.

Activate the Tracking Prevention
Trackers collect online activity data, potentially exposing personal information to third parties, causing identity theft, targeted advertising, and cyberattacks, though not all websites use trackers for enhanced online experiences.

Microsoft Edge's tracking prevention feature safeguards users from malicious and unvisited websites.

To activate tracking prevention, navigate to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Tracking Prevention and ensure the toggle is turned on.

The recommendation is to choose "Balanced" to ensure adequate protection without affecting certain website features through tracking prevention.

Clear the Data Automatically
Edge saves specific information to improve browsing experience, such as passwords and form data, which can be removed when the browser is closed.

To clear browsing data, navigate to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Clear Browsing Data and select "Choose What to Clear Every Time You Close Your Browser."

To remove unwanted options, toggle them off each time the browser is closed, like "Cached Images and Files" and "Autofill Form Data."

Turn on Automatic HTTPS
Enabling automatic HTTPS capability in Edge will convert the HTTP portion of a URL to HTTPS, enhancing the security of the website connection.

HTTPS encrypts URLs before delivery to the destination website, making it difficult for unauthorized parties to decrypt and access the contents.

To enable this experimental functionality, copy and paste edge://flags/#edge-automatic-https in the address bar and hit Enter.

Regularly check the security of your passwords.
Microsoft Edge's Password Security Check is a tool that helps identify weak, repeated, or compromised passwords that can expose accounts to intrusions.

Navigate to Settings > Profiles > Passwords in Edge to do a password security check.

To examine the passwords for the accessible websites, click "Password Security Check" in Microsoft Edge.

When it's finished, Edge will display all of your compromised, reused, or compromised passwords so you may take appropriate action.
